Pack Wars I: Pack 03 - 2007 Upper Deck Series 2

It's the third pack of the Gems of the Game Pack Wars. Currently, Box 1 holds a two pack lead over Box 2 and an eight point overall lead over Box 2. The third pack in the Pack Wars is a 2007 Upper Deck Series 2 pack.

Note: For complete scoring rules, check out the initial post.

Pack #03: 2007 Upper Deck Series 2

Box 1:

524. Micah Owings (+5 player I like, easily my favorite card from the pack.)

549. Macay McBride (who? 0 points)
560. Steve Trachsel (0 points)
629. Alex Gonzalez (+10 points for being a Red...and -5 for being a Reds killer. Total 5 points)
694. Justin Verlander - Detroit Tigers Checklist (0 points)
845. Alex Rodriguez (-4 points for being a Yankee)

967. Jae Kuk Ryu (who? 0 points)
992. Matt Stairs (1 point x2 for showing 'ol Stairs really chugging around the basepaths. Total 2 points)

All-Star Game Junk Card (0 points)
Upper Deck Dummy Card (0 points)

Total score: 5 + 0 + 0 + 5 + 0 - 4 + 0 + 2 + 0 + 0 = 8 points

Box 1 sets a new record with 8 points, eclipsing their previous high of 7 points from both packs 1 and 2. Box 1 also got the glory of the first Cincinnati Reds card, although it only counted for half since it was a card of grossly overpaid, underperforming Alex Gonzalez.

Box 2:

557. Chad Bradford (who? 0 points)
608. Jason Marquis (Blech, a Cub. -1 point)

624. Jim Thome (Here's a guy I always kind of liked, +5 points for that)

671. Chris Iannetta (I drafted this guy on a couple of fantasy teams which would have qualified him for the 5 point bonus but he was stinking up the joint so bad I had to drop him after a couple weeks...thus 0 points)

709. Rick Vanden Hurk (0 points
855. Todd Walker (0 points, he was a Red once but it was back in 2002)
965. Chris Carpenter - St. Louis Cardinals Checklist (another NL Central team but it's the wrong team that wears red... -1 point)

1006. Jesus Flores (1 point x2 = 2 points for being a great card. A catcher in full gear complete with a helmet with an eagle on it and a card number over 1000...yeah, that's cool.)

Upper Deck Dummy Card (0 points)

Total score: 0 - 1 + 5 + 0 + 0 + 0 - 1 + 2 + 0 = 5 points

Boy, Box 2 has really been quite lousy. At least there weren't any Yankees in the pack...that's a small victory for Box 2...even so, there were two negatively scoring cards - something that Box 2 better learn how to avoid if it wants any hope of winning this thing.

Running tally:
Box 1: 3 pack wins and +22 total points
Box 2: 0 pack wins and +11 total points

3 packs so far and 3 victories for Box 1. Not much exciting pulled so far...but I suppose that's expected with a repack box. Will the scoring heat up or will mediocrity rule the day? We shall see...
