Good News for Reds Fans!

It's no secret that the Reds have been nothing short of lousy this year...and a lot of that blame has to be put squarely upon the shoulders of manager Dusty Baker. However, despite Baker's many shortcomings, he has had to deal with a plethora of injuries to starters and plenty of lousy players on the big league roster.

Well, today that number of lousy players on the Reds' roster is reduced by one. According to the Boston Globe and now ESPN.com, the Boston Red Sox have decided that they will somehow be benefited by trading for Alex Gonzalez, the Reds' current shortstop (and former Red Sox).

What are the Red Sox getting with this deal? A (former) slick-fielding shortstop who is only batting .210 this year with 3 homeruns in 243 at bats. According to the Globe, it's unknown what the Reds are receiving in return...but I wouldn't be surprised if they told Boston "you want him, you take him" and were content with getting off the hook for the remainder of Alex's contract.

Thanks Boston, and to all Boston fans: Don't expect Mr. Gonzalez to move more than about 2.5 feet in any direction to field a ground ball...you've been warned.
