Breaking News: Reds Rid Themselves of Taveras.

According to this article on ESPN, the Reds have traded Willy Taveras (finally) and Adam Rosales to the Oakland A's for Aaron Miles and a player to be named later (or cash).

I've written about my disdain for Taveras a few times (when the trade first happened I was mad at the pile of poo the Reds gave fans, and then again when the Reds traded a different player instead of Willy).  Well, that nightmare is now over - Dusty Baker can no longer bat wee Willy in the leadoff spot for my beloved Redlegs.

While I'm happy, I actually feel bad for A's fans...  What in the world was A's GM Billy Beane thinking?  And to top it off, apparently Beane designated Taveras for assignment within minutes of the trade...  So basically the A's gave up Miles and a PTBNL (or cash) for Reds light-hitting, iron-fisted fielding bench player Adam Rosales.  On the plus side, Rosales does hustle in everything he does.

Thanks a lot Walt Jocketty for finally doing something that Reds fans have been begging for...perhaps we'll have a "real" leadoff hitter yet this year!

  1. Maybe opening up a spot for Chris Dickerson? What do you think of him?

  2. Man! Billy Beane is really losing his mind in Oakland. Good for the Reds even if you had to take Miles back in return.

Come on Willie was not that bad

  4. Roy: Dickerson's alright, but basically no power and marginal speed. I don't think he's a full-time answer, but he's a good 4th outfielder.

Evan: Agreed, and Miles is cheaper and (hopefully) won't tempt Dusty into batting him second every single game.

Anonymous: Willy was that bad...I felt a bit bad for him since you could see the fear in his eyes (especially in "steal situations")...but Baker really had a role in most Reds' fans dislike of him.

Lonestar: Well, at least it's not a spammer, that's something!

  5. Apparently the rumors of Walt rebuilding Cardinals East are true. ;-)

Actually, we loved Miles while in St. Louis but LaRussa used him wisely and didn't overexpose him like Pinella did in Chicago. He was also great with the kids off the field. Good guy by all accounts.

  6. Aaron Miles is fine if he's not your starter at any position.

Supposedly Oakland is not going to keep Willie T. Not sure what's going on there, but then again I never am sure what Oakland is doing...
