Topps 2010 Jumbo Pack Showdown I: Pack #2

2010 MLB Topps Jumbo Box
Jumbo Pack Showdown I

The first jumbo pack netted a total of 34.375 points, so that's the current total to beat.  Of course, I still haven't found one of the (three?) hits which have a lot of possible multipliers.  Let's dig into pack #2.

Jumbo Pack #2:

Base
Cards:
5.  Texas Rangers
14.  Ted Lilly
27.  Photo Day Fun (I don't like this photo, Topps went for goofy and they got it...unfortunately, I don't really want goofy in my base set.  -1 point)
39.  Jeff Baker
41.  Los Angeles Dodgers (+6 points.  Franchise History, +5 points, cool photo +1 point)

47.  Brad Penny
50.  Zack Greinke
56.  Andy Pettitte (-5, Yankee)
63.  Josh Bard
64.  Drew Stubbs (+5 points, Red!  I'm not entirely sold on the rookie card icon though)

67.  Matt LaPorta
72.  Milwaukee Brewers (+5, Franchise History)
97.  Luis Durango
113.  Willy Taveras (+5 for being a Red in the photo)

125.  Ichiro
127.  Hank Blalock
136.  Adam Wainwright
153.  Justin Duchscherer
166.  Eric Byrnes
169.  Pittsburgh Pirates (+8 total points.  +2 Pirate, +5 Franchise History, +1 cool photo)

179.  Ryan Spilboroghs
203.  AL ERA Leaders
210.  Josh Beckett (-2 points, Red Sox)
224.  Rod Barajas
229.  Daniel McCutchen (+2, Pirate)
239.  Juan Uribe
246.  Leo Nunez
247.  Andre Ethier
259.  Daniel Hudson
263.  Placido Polanco
269.  Anthem in the Bronx (-6 total, -5 Yankee, -1 for showing more than 1 Yankee)
281.  Braden Looper
285.  Kurt Suzuki
289.  Lyle Overbay
310.  Elvis Andrus
311.  Jose Valverde
313.  Jason Kubel
318.  Nate Schierholtz
320.  Brian McCann
325.  Julio Lugo

Base cards total points = 17
Well, two more points than pack #1, that's a good sign...let's see how the inserts stack up.

Inserts:
183. Jonathan Papelbon - Gold Parallel (#1401/2010) (+1 point / 2 Red Sox = 0.5 points)

TMC-6. Million Card Giveaway (+1 point /4 for featuring Mickey Mantle-Yankees = 0.25 points)
TR50. Pablo Sandoval- Turkey Red (+1 point)
PP50. Ty Cobb - Peak Performers (+1 point, +1 point for being a player I like.  It's fun to get old time players that get less exposure than the Mantles and Ruths of the baseball world.  Total = 2 points)
FCTTT7. Josh Hamilton- Topps Town (+1 point +1 more for being a player I like.  Total = 2 points)
LL30. Ricky Henderson & Carl Crawford  (+1 point)
CMT13. Brooks Robinson - Cards Your Mother Threw Out regular back (+1 point)
TOG2. Curse of the Bambino- Tales of the Game (+1 /4 (for being a Yankee) and /2 (for being about the Red Sox) = +1/8 point or +0.125 points)
HOTG3. National League Created - History of the Game (+1)

WTWY-DO. David Ortiz (+1 x2 WTWY /2 Red Sox = 1 point)

Insert card total points = 9.875 points
Base card points = 17 points
Total points = 26.875 points

Final thoughts:
Ouch!  The base cards scored marginally higher than the first pack but the inserts sure were a letdown.  So far, the jumbo box hasn't been overly impressive...maybe pack 3 will be a bit more interesting (hint:  I already opened the pack...and yeah, it's a bit more interesting than this stinker at least)!

Scoreboard:
1.  34.375 points:  Jumbo Pack 1 (best cards:  Daniel McCutchen When They Were Young Insert, Ozzie Smith Turkey Red)
2.  26.875 points:  Jumbo Pack 2 (best cards:  Pittsburgh Pirates Franchise History, Ty Cobb Peak Performer)
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.
9.
10.
