TCDB Monday: It's a Monster, Folks!

Delivery Time! More than 26 Cents Worth of Cards

Matt (from 26 Cent Summer) and I have completed two trades within the last three weeks.  The first time I received some cards I needed from a couple of older sets.  This time, I received a couple of cards I needed from the 2011 Topps set in exchange for one of the many trade stacks that I've featured on my blog.

2011 Topps:
Topps 60:
T60-34.  Mark Reynolds

I liked this set quite a bit when it first came out, but admittedly, after acquiring most of the cards - they are kind of boring...each one is too similar to all the others, and as others have noted, many of the categories are simply ridiculous.  Take, for example, this Mark Reynolds.  Did you know that he ranked fourth (yes fourth) in 2010 NL At-Bats per Home Run?  One year, one league, and he ranked fourth.  That doesn't really seem worthy of a card to me, how about you?

60 Years of Topps - The Lost Cards:
60YOTLC-8.  Mickey Mantle

This card ended up being a duplicate - you can find it, and plenty of other 2011 Topps base and insert cards, on my 2011 Topps For Trade post.  The card itself is pretty nice - but the more interesting thing (to me) was the information on the back.  According to the card, Mantle "presumably would have been assigned either 175, #186, #203, or #209" in the 1955 Topps set.  Those were the missing numbers which Topps says were "cards that were never printed due to ongoing litigation with Bowman over rights."  The history is interesting, but more interesting is the fact that Topps doesn't seem to know which number Mantle would have been.  You'd think they would have a preliminary checklist somewhere that they could look at!  Maybe that helps explain why their modern website is so poor - Topps simply doesn't know what is in their sets!

Thanks for the trade Matt!  And, as always, if anyone else would like to trade check out my want list and make an offer!
