Group Break #5: The Last Preview: 2000 Topps Tek

As I hope everyone is aware of, I am about to begin another group break - this one continues my trend of group breaks involving boxes of older (and hopefully interesting) sets!  There are still a few slots left - and remember, if all the slots are taken I'm throwing in an extra box of cards (Stadium Club - Relic Edition).  Snap up the few remanining slots!

For today's post, I thought I'd give an "early preview" to one of the Topps Tek packs so that people have a chance to see what this box is all about - and, just maybe, persuade people to claim the last few remaining slots!

The 2000 Topps Tek set features a bunch of players with a bunch of different backgrounds (and picture poses) for each player.  It's a player collectors best (or is it worst) dream?  For each card, I think there are something like 20 versions of that player.  In addition, there are some serially numbered rookie cards (as you'll see in the first pack out of the box).

I already detailed the other insert sets in the original group break announcement, so let's take a look at the first pack!

200 Topps Tek:
Pack 1:

23-2.  Larry Walker - Rockies

The first number designates the actual card number, the second number (in this case, the two) represents which background design the card has.  It will be interesting to see all of the different backgrounds as the box progresses (or at least, I hope we get to see them all)!
32-7.  Derek Jeter - Yankees

I have no idea what it says "Tampa" in the background of Jeter's card.  Weird!  The scans really don't do these cards justice at all.  Everywhere that appears to be white in color is actually clear plastic.  The designs are all foily and rainbowy - the cards really pop when you hold them in the light.
35-8.  Sean Casey - Reds

Apparently version 8 of the background features a fascimile signature of player in question.  You'll also notice that the cards have a lot of clear plastic space - that's where all the different backgrounds shine (literally since they are all foily)!
43-19.  Josh Girdley - Expos  (#ed 1648/2000)

The rookies are all serially numbered, so for the second time in as many preview packs, we pulled a serialized card!  I've scanned the back of this card so that you can see the numbering in the bottom corner.  Also, the backs of each card feature a secondary photo of the player which is a nice touch!

So far, in an incredibly small sample size, the group break is going really well!  Let's claim those last few spots and get the party started full blast!
