Group Break: 1999 Topps Finest: Packs 13, 14, 15, and 16

There have been quite a few duplicates in the Topps Finest box.  As usual, if anyone doesn't want their duplicates let me know.  For now, let's open another four packs and hope we avoid pulling cards we've already found!

Of course, this break is sponsored by Baseball Card Exchange:

Baseball Card Exchange is a great place to order cards from so make sure you check them out (especially if you want to maybe try your hand at one of the boxes I've featured in this break - be sure to tell them I sent you)!

Pack 13:
20.  Tony Gwynn - Padres

21.  Juan Guzman - Orioles
54.  John Olerud - Mets
76.  Bobby Higginson - Tigers
77.  Todd Walker - Twins
103.  Nomar Garciaparra - Red Sox

Although the Nomar is a really nice card, I'm giving the pack win to the Padres...  Is that a graphing calculator sticking out of Gwynn's pant pocket?  It sure looks like it could be.

Pack 14:
13.  Brian McRae - Mets
35.  Scott Rolen - Phillies
36.  Neifi Perez - Rockies
53.  Francisco Cordova - Pirates
88.  Sean Casey - Reds
124.  Kerry Wood - Cubs

I happen to think the Sean Casey card is the best of the pack - but I'm guessing most people would prefer the Kerry Wood card.  Since I'm a fair guy (sometimes), I'll give this pack to the Cubs.  That's the third pack win for the blue team from Chicago which moves them one ahead of the other team from the Windy City.

Pack 15:
37.  Brad Radke - Twins
43.  John Wetteland - Rangers
50.  Nomar Garciaparra - Red Sox
75.  Juan Gonzalez - Rangers

89.  Aaron Sele - Rangers
139.  Alex Gonzalez - Marlins

When half the pack belongs to a certain team, it's hard not to award that team the pack break win.  In this case, that team happens to be the Rangers.

Pack 16:
52.  Jeff King - Royals
64.  Ray Durham - White Sox
68.  Royce Clayton - Rangers
92.  Rusty Greer - Rangers
95.  Mike Piazza - Mets

129.  Eric Chavez - Athletics

Well, geez...why don't we get all the Rangers in the set in back-to-back packs?!  So, the question becomes:  Does the Mike Piazza card trump the pair of Ranger cards?  In my opinion, yes, the Piazza is a better card than the two Rangers - plus the Rangers just won the last pack...so congrats New York on your second pack win (you are now only 6 pack wins away from tying your New York rivals, the Yankees).

As a whole, those weren't the most exciting packs...especially since no one claimed the Rangers as their primary team.   I plan to get a few more pack breaks up today - the end of the break is approaching so I hope everyone is still enjoying the process!
