Group Break 3: 1998 Flair Showcase - Packs 12, 13, & 14

It's time for another three packs of Flair Showcase.  I had to pry myself away from the PS3 (and Skyrim) in order to get these posted.  Spring break makes me lazy, what can I say?

Pack 12:
13.  Flair - Showtime:  Greg Maddux - Braves
31.  Flair - Showstopper:  Brian Rose - Red Sox
73.  Flair - Showdown:  Ray Lankford - Cardinals
100.  Flair - Showpiece:  Curt Schilling - Phillies

12.  Style - Showstopper:  Todd Helton - Rockies

 Pack 13:
16.  Flair - Showtime:  Livan Hernandez - Marlins
55.  Flair - Showstopper:  Ken Caminiti - Padres
81.  Flair - Showdown:  Tom Glavine - Braves
114.  Flair - Showpiece:  Reggie Sanders - Reds
4 of 12:  Wave of the Future:  Juan Encarnacion - Tigers

Woah, a baseball card with a watery-goo like substance inside it?  Definitely the Wave of the Future!   As crazy and weird as cards like this are, it was a big part of what makes late '90s boxes so much fun to open...you really never quite know just what to expect!  That's completely unlike sets like today's flagship Topps where you can pretty name each type of insert just by looking at the previous year's set.

Pack 14:
12.  Flair - Showtime:  Todd Helton
 48.  Flair - Showstopper:  Edgar Renteria - Marlins
76.  Flair - Showdown:  Rondell White - Expos
103.  Flair - Showpiece:  Edgar Martinez - Mariners
78.  Grace - Showtime:  Raul Mondesi - Dodgers

As it currently stands, my Reds aren't doing nearly as well as most teams in the break (at least in terms of base cards).  As for parallels, inserts, and serially numbered cards - there are only 11 teams without at least one representative from one of the three categories.  Of course, there are teams like the Yankees that have one of each type as well!

  1. That Wave of the Future card is bad ass. Too bad no one I collect is on the checklist. Someone needs to try that again.
