I had to run to Wal*Mart to get some more mailing envelopes for the group break. The card aisle called out to me and I found myself holding a blaster of 2012 Upper Deck Goodwin Champions. I figured I'd give it a try - will the blaster yield an autograph or a relic? You'll have to watch the video to find out...or scroll down, whichever.
Some of the better stuff from the blaster: Each blaster promises five mini cards (on average). My blaster didn't disappoint. I ended up with four regular minis (Tim Howard, Sarah Bernhardt, Zach Johnson, and Alan Bean). I also got a green bordered Lady Luck mini of Mike Tyson. The blaster also provided me with one Military Machines card - mine was of the USS Balao. As for the base cards, I ended up with two ex-Reds - Pete Rose and Johnny Bench. Lots of golfers in the set, including Natalie Gulbis...can't go wrong with her, right?
The best base card in the set belongs to Fergus Suter though. That's some kind of cardboard gold!!
And finally, my blaster did yield a hit (too bad the hit sucks)...
I don't know anything about hockey but I did look on eBay and saw that this guy's relic isn't selling for much (if anything) at all. Oh well, that's the risk of buying crappy sets, right? Actually, I am a bit ashamed to say that I like the set, but if I were to do it again I would definitely buy a hobby box instead of spending hard earned money on a blaster.

Whoops - that's not the card... |

Actually, I'll take that Shanahan if it's up for trade. I'll shoot you an e-mail later on tonight.
ReplyDeleteWow, what a terrible set--who was the artist responsible for those images that look absolutely nothing like the subjects? I can tell you for sure that Brendan Shanahan looks nothing like that! Meanwhile poor Natalie has crazy eyes and Pete Rose looks like a caveman.
ReplyDeleteWow, is that artwork so bad, it's good? Or is it just bad? Rose looks like Bruce Jenner if he got hit in the face with a frying pan and I'm not sure what's going on with Bench. Is he trying to grow a mustache? I agree with Dennis about Natalie's eyes. I usually like this set but after seeing your post I don't know. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteShanahan would be a nice hit if it wasn't in a set like Goodwin. Just awful stuff there.
