Brand: Score Young Superstars II
Card number: 34
In 1988, Score released two sets of Young Superstars. Barry Larkin was not in the first set, but he did make the cut for the second set of 40 cards. Unlike the regular 1988 Score set, the Young Superstars set features a large photo on the front and back of the card. Unfortunately, both the regular base card and this card also feature a dizzying assortment of colors and some of the most hideous borders on a baseball card. Score also continued its love affair with the color purple (which simple does not work with the Reds' all-red uniform).
In terms of information, the card back does feature Larkin's career stats (abbreviated of course because he was new to the scene in 1988). The back photo is also quite nice - something that maybe Upper Deck got credit for in 1989 despite Score doing a good job the year before. I also like the snippet from the scout's report - it plays into the "young superstars" theme quite nicely.
