The Semi-Finals of the Blogger Bracket Challenge set a new record for total number of votes cast. In fact, while the 12 - 42 score of the Play at the Plate vs. The Junior Junkie matchup was a record...it only lasted for a brief second because our other semifinal match-up raked in over 260 votes in total!!
Woah! Never before have I seen successful ballot stuffing by a pair of competitors. I know where some of the traffic (and thus votes) came from, but not all. All I can say is that I am 100% ok (it's even encouraged) for you to ask, beg, or plead for votes - each person should only vote one time (per device I guess). I use the Google built-in polls with the idea that they are relatively tamper-proof but I'm sure nothing is 100% perfect. Remember, the contest is meant to be all good fun for everyone!
Now that we have the semifinals completed, we have our final pairing - winner takes all! (And here "all" is defined to be the stack of cards used for this tournament.) In addition, I will say that I've already started to gather up cards for the next edition of the Blogger Bracket Challenge. For 2014, I'm thinking about running the contest in February rather than November. In February I figure more people will be gearing up for baseball - and November seems to be the least read month of the year for baseball blogs (or at least my blog anyhow). What do you think? Let me know below.
Enough about that - let's get to the finals!!
The 2013 Blogger Bracket Challenge Finals!
The Junior Junkie (#20 seed) vs. Comatoad (#19 seed):
In a stunning turn of events, both the lower seeded competitors knocked out our #1 and #2 seeds in the tournament. This was shaping up to be a by-the-chalk tournament until that happened! Now, it's anyone's game.
The prompt:
So many possibilities! Will you go low brow humor? Will you go high brow humor? How about making jokes about the Athletics and getting beaned in the beans thanks to Billy Beane? I have no idea - but I can't wait to see what you two come up with!
Since this coming week is Thanksgiving, I'm going to leave this round open until after the holiday - I'd hate for anyone to miss out on the finals because of turkey! Thus, the deadline to post a link to your entry is Sunday, December 1 at 10:00 PM EST. That gives you just over a week to concoct the best possible entry!

The vote between me and Duff was in the mid 20s/low 30s with a few hours left when I texted my mom and brother to have them vote for me. A few hours later, the votes went up past 100. My mom said that her and my sister had called/Facebooked all their friends. Crazy. I'm a little embarrassed, but my family is pretty cool like that.
ReplyDeleteHoly mackerel. I posted my post on Facebook, but 150? I'm toast....
ReplyDeleteCongrats Junior! It was a fun ride while it lasted and you had a great post!
ReplyDeleteYou too, bro. Everybody's post was really strong this round. I'm pretty stumped on that Sweeney, too. Glad we got some extra time!
