30 Teams in 30 Posts: #3

I'm ranking all 30 of the MLB teams in order of how much I like them at this moment in time.  As with most countdowns, I'm starting with the worst (Cardinals) and I'll eventually end up with the best (Reds).  The real question now is:  Where will the other MLB teams land in my countdown?

The end my college semester is almost here which means I need to start writing some final exams.  Along with work for the courses I'm teaching, this is also the time of the year with lots of "extra" duties that professors are expected to do.  Today, for example, (on a Sunday no less) is our college's Honor's Convocation.  It's basically a 2.5 hour awards show where the professors and staff all have to wear their academic regalia.  As a student, I liked Honor's Convocation because I got some awards (including some with cash) but as a professor it's a long drag...and it completely eats up one of my two weekend days right before finals!

You probably don't care about that though, you are here to see which team finished in the third spot in my 2019 MLB rankings.

#3:  Pittsburgh Pirates

Now, I must say that I wrote my list out prior to the start of the 2019 MLB season.  If I had to rank all of the teams at this very moment the Pirates would not be in the third spot.  Not after they basically started a fight by throwing at a Reds' batter because he hit a home run into the river.  That said, hopefully the little tiff between the two teams dies down and that I can go back to rooting for the Pirates over the other NL Central teams (except Cincinnati of course).

Another good reason to rank Pittsburgh so high (besides the fact that I root for them over the Cardinals, Cubs, and Brewers) is that the Pirates have one of the best ballparks in all of baseball...and they just so happen to be one of the closest MLB cities to where I live.  I've been to games in Pittsburgh more than any other city (and I've blogged about one of my trips here).

All things told, Pirates' fans deserve a winner in Pittsburgh much like Reds' fans deserve a winner in Cincinnati.  Obviously, I hope Cincinnati gets a winning team first but if they can't manage to do that then I'll happily jump on the Pittsburgh bandwagon for the playoffs.

My list of favorite MLB teams (from worst to first):
