Now that I'm finally caught up on my packages from 2020, I'm ready to get back to more recent mailings! Case in point, today's package is a recent envelope that arrived from Mark over at the Chronicles of Fuji. Many of you probably know Mark as one of the most prolific (and thoughtful) blog commenters out there - frankly, without his comments I'd probably be left wondering if anyone out there even reads what I write on a daily basis!
Mark and I have sent some mail back and forth in the past, usually it's a case of "here's some cards you'll probably like" as a bit of a surprise mailing and that's exactly how I'd classify the latest envelope in our series of trades.
In fact, Mark hit many of my collecting interests - the Reds and Allen & Ginter! Hard to beat that combination.
Let's start with these nifty foldout cards from Upper Deck.
I'm not exactly sure how one stores these but the cards are undeniably interesting. On the back of each card, you get quite a bit of information about the featured player plus a blurb about B.A.T. (Baseball Assistance Team) which was formed to help members of the baseball family in need. I've never heard of B.A.T. prior to these cards but I like the idea of the initiative, however, I can only wonder though if the program is still in existence (the cards are from 1993).
Out of the rest of the Reds cards that Mark sent me, I think my two favorites have to be the following two cards.

Those couldn't be more different - vintage (i.e. classic) Topps and a Fleer Sticker but I love them both equally. I've stated on the blog many, many times that I'm a huge sucker for sticker logos of baseball teams - and if it's of my favorite team, well, then I'm even more interested!
Finally, let's end with the intersection of the Venn Diagram consisting of the circles "Reds" and "Allen & Ginter" and "mini cards."
Three Reds minis from the 2020 edition of Allen & Ginter. In case you are wondering, the second Castillo isn't a duplicate - one is a regular back while the other is an A&G ad back.
Many, many thanks to Mark (aka Fuji) for all of the wonderful cards - plus all of his comments on my blog posts!

Figured I'd flood the hobby with those odd-sized foldouts and see if anyone comes up with a good way to store them. :D
ReplyDeleteI'm not familiar with the dimensions, but those foldouts look like they might fit in tall boy pages.
ReplyDeleteThe Baseball Assistance Team is very much still a thing. Their Board of Directors currently includes some very familiar names, including Buck Martinez, Steve Garvey, Adam Jones, Sal Bando, and Sudden Sam McDowell. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baseball_Assistance_Team
ReplyDeleteI've got a card from that B.A.T. set with the same picture of Honus Wagner in a sweater that was on a popular Stadium Card a couple years ago.
Looks like they found a great home! Never heard of B.A.T. But going to go read about them now!
