Barry Larkin
Year: 1996
Brand: Collector's Choice
Insert set: You Make the Play - Gold Signature
Card number: 20
The 1996 Collector's Choice set had an insert set called You Make the Play which was basically a bunch of game cards. Collectors would collect all of the cards and then use those cards to play some sort of baseball-themed game. Unfortunately, I have yet to learn the actual rules of that game since no rules are printed on the game cards. I can only assume that Barry's "Groundout" card would not be good for the purposes of the game (unless you also play cards as the pitcher)?
I should also note that the above card is actually the Gold Signature parallel. I've been on record for several years saying that parallels of insert cards are stupid and this particular card isn't going to change my mind. There's no reason for a different color foil signature, especially on an insert!
With all of the parallels and subsets in the 1996 Collector's Choice set, there are 16 different Barry Larkin cards for me to track down! As of today's post, I am still on the hunt for four cards from the set (all of them Gold Signature parallels as denoted below with "No" under the first column).
It's hard to believe that I could still need that many cards from the 1996 Collector's Choice set - a set aimed at kids and almost definitely overproduced! No matter, at least I can inch a bit closer with the acquisition of today's Gold Signature parallel (even if the entire concept is stupid it won't stop me from continuing to chase the other shiny foils in the set).

I've seen these inserts plenty of times over the years... but never realized UD made a gold signature parallel. It doesn't surprise me though. I feel like every Collector's Choice card has a gold signature parallel.
