Board Game Friday: November and December 2024 Games Played Recap!

I spent the month of December counting down my Top 50 Board Games of 2024 which meant that I didn't have time to do my usual monthly recap of my personal board game plays.  Today, I aim to get back on track by recapping the games I played in November and December of last year.

Overall, I had 87 in-person board game plays spread across 30 titles.  For those who like images, here's the visual of what I got to the table:

As you can see, I had a wide variety of game types show up in November and December, thanks in no small part to some of my siblings coming home for the holidays!  New games (to me) included:

Dice Throne:  Santa v. Krampus:  A delightful holiday-themed Dice Throne game.  My son and I enjoyed playing this one quite a bit.  I have a feeling that the two included characters wouldn't fare so well against other Dice Throne characters but keeping the two paired together in battle works well.

Monkey Palace:  A proper LEGO board game, Monkey Palace has players build up a tall temple, buy cards, and attempt to outscore their opponents.  It's a relatively simple game but still quite fun.

Planted:  A Game of Nature & Nurture:  I bought this game specifically to play with my wife since she's big on houseplants.  My son ended up enjoying this one as well, though I do think the game will have a relatively short shelf life as it's a bit too light for me to want to return to over and over.  I will say that the components in the game are quite nice (other than the card stock).

Knarr:  I received this game for my birthday and I found it to be a lovely little card game.  I only got to play it twice but this is one of those games that I think could have a long shelf life, it seems like it's quick enough and yet has enough depth of decision-making to be interesting long-term.

My Favorite Things:  A fun party game that I played with my family.  In My Favorite Things, you use other people's answers to their favorite things in a category to then play a simple trick-taking game.  It's clever, relatively fast, and sure to get people talking!

Earth:  I've had Earth on my shelf of shame for quite a while so I was happy to finally have a chance to dust off the box and give the game a whirl (I had traded for this game quite some time ago).  Earth is a tableau builder with lots and lots of cards (and choices).  I've also played this game on BGA since playing my physical copy so hopefully I'll be able to remember the rules for the next time I get to play the game in person.

Overall, the combined November and December period was a great time for board gaming!  My son has kind of cooled on playing board games, especially on school days, so having a chance to pester other people to play with me over the holidays was probably nice for everyone (except maybe those that I pestered).

On the bright side, I can report that my son has been a bit more into playing board games since the new year started - so yes, I do plan to continue to recap my plays in 2025!
