TCDB Monday: So Much Vintage!

A few weeks ago, I completed a trade with TCDB user kcjays.  He mentioned having a lot of vintage cards that I might be interested in for my ongoing Forever Topps Binder Project.  I had a lot of modern cards he wanted, so it ended up being a fairly easy trade!

The trade package arrived from kcjays quite some time ago, but I had been holding off on showing the cards until I fully updated my Forever Topps Binder Project up through the year 2025.  Unfortunately, life has been keeping me busy away from my baseball cards (and with that, away from my Forever Topps set as well).

Since I need to clean off my desk of incoming packages prior to the start of the next academic year, I'm going to simply show off what I was able to trade for, and in a future post on a future day, we'll see which cards end up in my Forever Topps binder (as luck would have it, I have another package also waiting to be shown off that has some other awesome potential additions for my Forever Topps Binder).

Without further ado, here's what I was able to trade for from kcjays:

  • 1958 - #118 Harvey Haddix
  • 1959 - #210 Ed Bailey
  • 1960 - #434 Brooks Lawrence
  • 1961 - #9 Bob Purkey
  • 1962 - #172 Fred Hutchinson
  • 1963 - #178 Johnny Edwards & #70 Jim O'Toole
  • 1964 - #185 Jim O'Toole & #420 Jim Maloney

  • 1965 - #75 Deron Johnson
  • 1966 - #357 Gerry Arrigo
  • 1967 - #374 Mel Queen
  • 1968 - #425 Jim Maloney
  • 1969 - #70 Tommy Helms
  • 1970 - #296 Woody Woodward
  • 1971 - #177 Hal McRae
  • 1972 - #157 Don Gullett
  • 1973 - #89 Jack Billingham
  • 1974 - #491 Roger Nelson & #585T Merv Rettenmund
  • 1975 - #108 Tom Hall
  • 1977 - #347 George Foster
  • 1978 - #526 Reds Team card
  • 1979 - #220 Cesar Geronimo
  • 1980 - #500 Tom Seaver

As you can see, that's a great-looking batch of vintage Cincinnati Reds cards.  There are a couple of years with more than one option, not to mention I already have a card in the binder for each of those years (which gives me even more options)!  There's also always an issue with vintage cards about condition (I'm on the record for my Forever Topps Binder Project as saying condition isn't important, however, I will upgrade to better-looking cards when possible)!

A huge thank you to kcjays for the trade (and apologies for how long it took me to post the cards here on the blog, I had big plans but life got in the way)!  Hopefully, there will be more updates regarding my Forever Topps Binder Project in the near future, as I said, there's another envelope sitting on my desk as I am writing this post that needs to be shown off on the blog soon!  Once that's done, then I think I'll get back to updating my binder.

Have a great week, everyone!
