Board Game Friday: September 2025 Board Game Arena Plays

Last month, I only managed to complete 23 online board games over at Board Game Arena.  While August is always a crazy month with work, I could only hope that things would settle down in September (and they did)!  Case in point:  I completed 77 plays in the month of September!

Here's what I got to the (virtual) table last month:

Of the 77 games, I won 33 (good for a 42.9% win rate).  That's probably about "par," considering many of the games I played were with more than a single opponent.

I did try out a few new games, including:

LLAMA

LLAMA is a very simple "press your luck" style card game with just enough strategy to be interesting for a few plays.  This is a game that I found works best using "live play" mode; however, I don't usually have time to sit at my computer uninterrupted to play through a full game of anything.

Can't Stop

Can't Stop is another simple "press your luck" style game, this time using dice.  I think I prefer Can't Stop over LLAMA, but both games are fun for short bursts.

Splendor Duel

Splendor is a game that I used to play all the time, and because of that, I did eventually purchase the two-player variant Splendor Duel.  Unfortunately, I never found Splendor Duel to have the same magic, and so the game sits on my shelf mostly collecting dust today.  For whatever reason, I decided to give the game a second chance on BGA to see if maybe my tastes had changed.  They had not, it turns out.  I mean, the game is perfectly fine, but I own so many other games that I like more at the two-player count that I simply don't see myself playing Splendor Duel much in person.  I may dabble some more with the game online (and I reserve the right to change my mind; I also didn't love 7 Wonders Duel at first, and now that's one of my favorite games to play on BGA)!

Forest Shuffle: Dartmoor

Forest Shuffle is a fun card game full of many, many symbols to collect.  Forest Shuffle: Dartmoor is a stand-alone new version of the game with different symbols to collect, though the basic gameplay loop is exactly the same as it was in the original game.  I enjoy both versions of the game quite a bit, so much so that I recently traded for Forest Shuffle (but more on that trade in a future blog post)!

That'll do it for September.  It was nice to get back to online board gaming, and I enjoyed trying out several new-to-me games as well. I'm always happy to learn new games, so if you are reading this and would like to play a game, reach out to me!
