Ripping a Box of 1999 Pacific Private Stock (Rare Parallels Galore!)

Many years ago (back in 2014), I ripped and reviewed a box of 1999 Pacific Private Stock.  That particular box was an overall disappointment (I gave it a gentleman's C- grade).  However, the Private Stock set itself has always been a favorite of mine, so when I was able to land another box for use in my current Breaker's Club group break, I quickly pushed the "buy it now" button!

The real question is, how did the new box compare to the one I ripped for myself back in 2014?  And the answer is, the latest box was much, much better!

I'll spare you scans of the base cards and minis, but I will mention that our box didn't produce a single mini parallel (those are seeded 1:25 packs, so I guess we got the one box without one in a case).  That's okay, though, because we pulled THREE different base parallels.

The 1999 Pacific Private Stock hobby boxes have four different base parallels that you could find:
  • Vintage Series #/99
  • Platinum Series #/199
  • Exclusive Series #/299 (hobby only)
  • Preferred Series #/399

Of the four possible sets, we found a representative for three different sets!

Preferred Series:
9.  Chipper Jones (#177/399)

We can start with the set with the largest print run, the Preferred Series, in which each card is numbered out of 399 copies.  The 1999 Private Stock set is mostly full of stars at the time, but even so, getting a Chipper parallel is a great pull.

Exclusive Series:
11.  Greg Maddux (#129/299)

The Braves slot in the group break paid immediate dividends with not one, but two different Private Stock parallels (and both of "big name" players).

Vintage Series:
17.  Ivan Rodriguez (#81/99)

Finally, our rarest card in the box - a Vintage Series parallel of none other than Pudge Rodriguez.  Numbered out of only 99, this is a great pull - and made for a strong finish to the collection of parallels!

In addition to the parallels, we also found a lone insert - but it was nice enough that it also deserves to be scanned and shown off:

That's a Home Run History card of Mark McGwire, fresh off his 70 home run campaign.  I'm a sucker for die-cut cards, so this one is an instant hit in my eyes!

That'll do for the second chance for 1999 Pacific Private Stock.  It's probably too bad that I had already done a proper box review, I can safely say that had this been the box I reviewed, the box grade would definitely have been better than a lowly C-!  On the bright side, all of the cards you see from today's post are part of a group break - so at least they will end up in the hands of fans of those respective teams, that's nice!
