Barry Larkin
Year: 1996
Set: Metal Universe
Parallel: Platinum
Card number: 149
The Platinum parallels in the 1996 Metal Universe set were seeded one per pack. Each Platinum card features the same background as the regular base card, except in an all-silver etched foil finish. Interestingly, the Platinum parallels look great in scans (but not so great in person), while the regular base cards scan poorly but look quite cool in person.
I'm on the record as stating I like the mid-90s Metal Universe sets, but I can understand how someone else could look at this card and think that it is an abomination. That said, I also would say that the Platinum parallels are inferior to the regular base cards, especially when you compare the two cards in hand (as opposed to the scans of each card). No matter, I'm happy to have the Larkin parallel for my collection - I'm rapidly approaching 1,100 different Barry Larkin cards scanned and written about!
Comments
I've had a back and forth interest in mid 90's Fleer Metal products. When they first came out, I loved them. But I lost interest in them by the end of the decade. Shortly after I took a break from the hobby. When I returned, I fell in love with them again.
