Topps 2010 Jumbo Pack Showdown: Pack #3 (First Hit!)

2010 MLB Topps Jumbo Box
Jumbo Pack Showdown I

As promised, there's a hit in this pack...will it be enough to top the first pack in points?

Jumbo Pack #3:

Base
Cards:
4.  NL Batting Leaders
23.  Shane Victorino
36.  Tobi Stoner
43.  Marco Scutaro
58.  Kyle Blanks
71.  Mike Hampton
77.  Kenshin Kawakami
101.  Scott Baker
102.  Minnesota Twins
108.  Erick Aybar
116.  Carlos Gomez
119.  Wilkin Ramirez
123.  Jeff Samardzija
124.  Rickie Weeks
126.  John Smoltz
138.  AL Home Run Leaders (-5 for Teixeira, -2 Bay = -7 points.  Ouch)

147.  Huston Street
156.  Tony Gwynn Jr.
157.  Mike Sweeney
159.  Vernon Wells
168.  Brad Kilby
195.  James Shields
199.  Seattle Mariners
213.  Ricky Nolasco
219.  Kevin Hart (+2 points, Pirate.  Finally a postive scoring card!)

221.  Russell Branyan
225.  David Price
233.  AL RBI Leaders (-5 for Teixeira, -2 Bay = -7 points, again.)

244.  Barry Zito
250.  Mark Teixeira (-5, seriously, Texeira has single-handedly knocked off 15 points from Pack 3's score!)
254.  Edwin Jackson
265.  Angels
268.  Juan Pierre  (+1 point for a crazy photo on the back of him with a hat that appears to be about 20 sizes too large for Pierre's head.)

275.  Chris Coghlan
283.  Adam Kennedy
297.  Ben Zobrist
306.  Milton Bradley
312.  Tyler Flowers
315.  Scott Kazmir
317.  Ryan Doumit (+2 points for being a Pirate, +1 for a cool photo)

Base cards total points = -11
Wow, what a horrendous group of base cards.  Three Teixeira cards, no Reds, and no Franchise History cards (which I really like).  The inserts have some serious work to do if this pack is to win the entire Showdown...

Inserts:
95. Carl Crawford - Gold Parallel (#0994/2010) (+1 point x2 for being a cool looking card, the gold border makes this card sharp!  Total = +2 points.)

TMC-1. Million Card Giveaway (+1 point)
TR13. Yovani Gallardo - Turkey Red (+1 point)
PP32. Ryan Howard - Peak Performers (+1 point)
TTT7. Tim Lincecum Topps Town (+1 point.  What's the difference between first class ticket to Topps Town and regular old Topps Town cards, besides the initials in front of the card number?)
LL11. Mike Schmidt and Evan Longoria - Legendary Lineage.  (+1 point, this card doesn't do it for me...not sure I really see much of a connection here.)
CMT54. Ryan Howard/Cole Hamels - Cards Your Mother Threw Out regular back (+1 point)

TOG19. Old cal Clutch - Tales of the Game (+1 x2 for being a player I like!  It's nice to get a card of Cal Ripken, it's even nicer when it seems all the other Tales of the Cards somehow deal with the Yankees or Red Sox.  +2 points)
HOTG14. First Hall of Fame Class is Inducted 1936 - History of the Game (+1)
PPA-CB.  Collin Balester - Peak Performers AUTOGRAPH  (Yawn...I don't even know if I know anyone who'd trade for this...at least it is an autograph, even if it is a "common" auto.  x10 points = 10 points)

Insert card total points = 21 points
Base card points = -11 points
Total points = 10 points

Final thoughts:
What a horrible pack.  I fully expected the scoreboard to have the three packs with the hits in the numbers 1 through 3 spots...Instead, this pack is almost assuredly going to end up dead last.  Ouch!

Scoreboard:
1.  34.375 points:  Jumbo Pack 1 (best cards:  Daniel McCutchen When They Were Young Insert, Ozzie Smith Turkey Red)
2.  26.875 points:  Jumbo Pack 2 (best cards:  Pittsburgh Pirates Franchise History, Ty Cobb Peak Performer)
3.  10 points:  Jumbo Pack 3 (best card:  Collin Balester Autograph, Carl Crawford Gold Parallel)
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.
9.
10.
