Delivery Time! Cards from my Brother - Part 1

About a month and a half ago, I received a giant box of cards from my brother containing quite a few cards off my want list.  In fact, there were so many cards in there that I needed that I had to split the trade post up into multiple parts (you can find Part 1 and Part 2 by clicking on the appropriate links).  Well, he may have managed to outdo himself this time around with the latest box of cards that he sent my way.  Although there may be fewer cards (in terms of raw numbers), I believe he managed to hit much more on my want list - including a whole bunch of cards that are short prints or that have lingered on my want list for years!

Let's take a look at the first part of the trade - and as I said, there is still plenty of other good stuff yet to come!

First up, some 2010 National Chicle cards.  My brother managed to send me sixteen Chicles that I needed, including almost all of the remaining missing non-shortprinted cards.  At this point, I still need the following (95, 127, 208, 218, 235, 238, 240, 243, 266, 276, 278, 281, 283, 284, 285, 286, 287, 293, 294, 295, 296, 297, 298, 299, 300, 302, 303, 304, 306, 308, 311, 312, 313, 314, 315, 317, 319, 320, 321, 323, 324, 325, 327, 328, 330) from the set.  As you can see, it's mostly short prints - but I have to admit, I'm extremely happy with my progress so far considering that I didn't even decide to go after the set until early this year!

Of the cards that I did get, my favorite two are the following:

4.  Daisuke Matsuzaka

The Dice-K is a great card for a couple of reasons.  For one, the background is much nicer on this one than many Chicles (it's not distracting nor is it terribly boring).  Even better though, and the reason I like this card so much, the expression on Dice-K's face is priceless.  He looks like he's about to throw that baseball through a neighbor's window or something just for fun!

288.  Thurmon Munson

Like the Dice-K above, I like the Munson card mostly for his facial expression.  Unlike Dice-K, Munson looks a little bit ominous in his portrait.   He's almost saying, "if I have to stand here with this bat on my shoulder for ten more seconds I'm going to pound your face in."  I'm not sure why he has a patch on his arm though that says "Yankee Stadium - 2009 - Inaugural Season".

2010 Allen & Ginter:

My brother sent me a pair of mini cards that I needed for my set (Cole Hamels & Johnny Damon).  At this point, I'm down to a more manageable number of regular back minis needed (6, 8, 20, 34, 36, 41, 42, 51, 54, 58, 59, 83, 91, 97, 106, 107, 109,  114, 126, 130, 137, 160, 162, 170, 175, 178, 181, 184, 187, 199, 200, 209, 212, 228, 230, 231, 234, 235, 241, 243, 246, 249, 254, 266, 270, 274, 275, 278, 280, 282, 289, 294, 298).  However, I'm still not convinced I'm going to finish the set via trades - it seems everyone has gotten rid of any unwanted Ginter minis by this point.  I guess I should start scouring eBay a bit more often!

And last, but certainly not least, I got a card from a set that has lingered on my want list since 2008...

2008 Upper Deck Masterpieces:
91.  Eddie Murray

For a set with only 30 short prints, this thing has been all kinds of annoying to me as I've worked on completing it.  At this point, I still need nine cards (#99, 100, 105, 108, 109, 112, 115, 116, 118) but at least it's no longer ten!  Perhaps by 2018 I'll have the set complete just in time for it's ten-year anniversary!

Thanks for the cards brother!  And, of course, this is only the first portion of what he sent me - there's still a LOT of short prints (and shiny cards) to come...Stay tuned!
