The Barry Larkin Experiment: Round 1M

It's hard to believe that we are at the halfway point of the first round already - Round 1K and Round 1L are each in the books.  First, I'll recap those to see who is moving on to the second round and then we'll take a look at the nominees for Round 1M.

Round 1K:

Round 1K featured a blowout for first place (the '02 Diamond King avenged the 1991 Diamond King loss earlier in the competition).  The vote for second was much closer though with only a single vote serving as the final tally that sent the 2006 Fleer Greats of the Game base card into the second round rather than the under appreciated 1992 Topps base card.

Round 1L:

Round 1L also featured a blowout for first place and an even closer vote for second (a tie as it turned out)!  The 2003 Topps T205 moves on without any true competition but I have to cast the tie-breaking vote for second place.  You all know how much I don't care for Bowman (usually at least)...and I'm already on the record for saying the 1991 Bowman set is kind of lame.  My vote goes to the '06 Fleer Greats of the Game parallel...that means both versions of the '06 Fleer Greats card will be in the second round!

With the last two rounds complete and the votes counted, let's move on to Round 1M!  Here are your nominees.

Round 1M:

2006 Fleer Greats of the Game - Reds Great Insert

Do you like the 2006 Fleer Greats of the Game set?   Could this card be the third Larkin card out of the set to make it to the second round?  It's a nice insert set (and a nice card) so I wouldn't be surprised to see this card make a nice little push in the voting.

2006 Fleer Greats of the Game - Reds Great Relic

What's that you say, you want more 2006 Fleer Greats cards in the second round?  How about if I raise the ante a bit with this relic card from the same set as the previous insert.   One nice thing about the insert design is that the relic fits nicely but the card looks good without the relic as well (something Panini isn't so good at...nor was Topps with the 2012 insert sets).

 1994 Topps base:

Sometimes you know a card is outclassed simply because it's the third (or fourth) card to be posted and there are already two cards that are so much better posted.  That said, it is conceivable that the votes get split between the relic and the regular insert and a card like the 1994 Topps base card is able to sneak into second place.  Or, maybe this card will win because all of the sudden a huge influx of "flip shades" fans will storm the blogs and vote early and often.

2000 Upper Deck Ultimate Victory:

I try to remain mostly impartial as I write the blurbs for each card - but honestly, this card doesn't deserve to move on over any of the other three.  There's really nothing to like about this card (other than the fact it is a Larkin card) and I'll be epically disappointed if you guys and gals vote it into the second round.

There you go - as always, the poll is up on the sidebar.  Go vote!
