Delivery Time! Trade with Chris from Budget Baseball Cardboarding

Due to my recent illness, I have fallen a bit behind in my trading posts...this particular post is one of those "catch up" posts.

Awhile back, I agreed to send Chris from the Budget Baseball Cardboarding blog a bunch of 2008 Topps Heritage. In return, Chris knocked a bunch of cards off of my 2009 Topps want list as well as a couple of other cards...

Here's what he sent me:

2009 Topps Heritage Chrome:
C61. Vernon Wells
C68. Phil Hughes

I've got a little over 40% of the Heritage Chrome set complete...but the trade offers for this particular set seemed to have dried up, which means it might be eBay or no way when it comes to actually completing it...

2009 Topps:
Throwback cards:
44. Geoff Jenkins
49. Kazuo Matsui
80. Brian McCann

116. Omar Infante
141. Mark Teahen
183. Jason Michaels
302. Brian Giles

Woo hoo! I haven't been able to delete throwback Topps cards from my want list in months!

Turkey Red:
TR58. Alfonso Soriano
TR84. Jose Reyes

I only need 16 more of the Turkey Red inserts...anyone still have some available for trade?!

Career Best Legends:
LGCB-BR. Babe Ruth
LGCB-MM. Mickey Mantle

I'm only missing one of the Career Best Legends cards - anyone have Career Best Jimmie Foxx?

World Baseball Classic:
BCS3. Yulieski Gourriel
BCS16. Aroldis Chapman

BCS20. Bernie Williams

These aren't the most exciting inserts, but hey, if you are like me and a sucker for complete sets, you gotta have 'em!

Legends of the Game:
LG-CJ. Chipper Jones

Topps Town Gold:
TTT18. Miguel Cabrera
TTT31. Vladimir Guerrero
TTT39. Carlos Zambrano
TTT45. Alex Rios

Thanks again Chris, and for anyone else, if you'd like to work out a trade - check out my want lists and make an offer!

Delivery Time! Trade with Brian from Waxaholic

More yellow envelopes, the latest came from the great country to the north - aka Canada. I sent Brian about a hundred or so '09 Allen & Ginter cards that I didn't need in exchange for a single Allen & Ginter insert that I did need and some assorted Reds. Brian upped the ante a bit more by including a pack of beautiful "junk wax" - a pack of 1990 Fleer.

Here's what Brian sent:

2009 Allen & Ginter:
Baseball Sketch:

AGHS2. Ken Griffey Jr.

I ended up pulling this card after agreeing to the trade, but it's such a nice card that it's alright in my book to have two of 'em.

A bunch of assorted Reds including:
Adam Dunn

I'm still trying to collect all these variations in the '08 Upper Deck set. I honestly have no idea why though.

Johnny Bench
One of the best Reds of all time. Any package that includes Mr. Bench is a good package!

Austin Kearns
Kearns is an outfielder, but it sure looks like he's playing third base in that photo....I'm confused. I certainly don't remember Kearns ever playing third - he had a good arm but I don't think he'd be a very good third baseman....

And a pack of 1990 Fleer that included:
Players of the Decade:
Ryne Sandberg
Can't complain about pulling a Sandberg either. He was a player I always liked, even if he was a Cub.

Thanks for the trade Brian. And, as always, if anyone else would like to work out a trade, check out my want list and make an offer!

Sick (take #4)

So, I believe I've come down with my third flu variant of the year's one of the "joys" of teaching at a college I guess, constant exposure to all the illnesses... If my posts are sporadic (or, more likely, non existent), that's why.

Delivery Time! Trade with Alfredo from My Past Time...I Love It!

Another day, another envelope in the mail. (Ok, ok, you got me. This envelope actually showed up a few days ago but I've been sick so you didn't get to see it until now.) Anyhow, in exchange for a couple of my "clunkers", Alfredo from the My Past Time....I Love It! blog sent me a couple of cards off my want lists.

I sent Alfredo a David Ortiz and a Manny Ramirez '08 Chrome Refractor plus a handful of Marlins. In return, Alfredo sent me the following:

2008 Upper Deck Timeline:
269. Carlos Gomez

297. Erik Bedard

12 assorted Cincinnati Reds, including my favorites of the bunch:
1989 Topps:
135. Jose Rijo

1992 Upper Deck:
761. Tim Belcher

2006 Fleer Ultra:
139. Ken Griffey Jr.

Thanks a lot Alfredo! If anyone else would like to work out a trade, check out my want list and make an offer!

Gint-a-Cuffs: Prize Box from Topps (Pack 13) - First Hit

When you already own all the base cards, it's a bit of a let down opening pack after pack without finding a single hit... Twelve packs in and that was exactly the situation I found myself in, but that all changed with pack #13...

Pack 13:

13. Travis Hafner
54. Carlos Guillen

150. Prince Fielder
179. Trevor Hoffman
NP6. Johnny Cueto

Black border mini:
105. Kurt Suzuki
This is the second black bordered Suzuki card I've pulled in this box, weird. I didn't have any collation issues with any of my first four Allen & Ginter boxes, but this one's been a little bit wonky and it is direct from Topps. Not a huge deal, but still odd.
Autograph Redemption:
Alex Rios

Sweet, an auto! I love the Allen & Ginter autographs, so this is a great pull in my book. It's also the first redemption card I've ever pulled, so I'll have to see just how long it takes to be returned to me (12 - 15 weeks is what the fine print says).

Delivery Time! Trade with Jack from All Tribe Baseball

Another Cards for Clunkers trade... This particular program exceeded my expections by such a large margin...I was hoping I might get one person to "bite"...instead, I completed about 10 different trades based on my clunkers!

This particular trade is from Jack over at the All Tribe Baseball blog. You can read all about Jack's side of the trade on his blog post here. As for what I got, behold:

Starquest (uncommon)
SQ-9. Derek Jeter

Plus two Barry Larkin cards that I didn't have!! (And as per the included note, I will thank MotherScratcher for the Larkin cards since Jack informed me that the Larkins came in some unopened packs MotherScratcher sent Jack.)

Delivery Time! Trade with Tim from Great Sports Name HOF

Another Cards for Clunkers envelope has made it to my mailbox, this time from Tim at the Great Sports Name Hall of Fame blog.

Tim sent me a few cards off of my want list in exchange for a couple of '08 Topps Chrome Xfractors:

1991 Topps:
35. Greg Maddux

1985 Topps:
734. John Henry Johnson

1991 Score:

Delivery Time! Trade with Kerry from Cards on Cards

Between being sick for most of last week and leaving town this past weekend, I've got a whole load of yellow envelopes full of cards waiting to be opened, scanned, written up, and finally safely stored in binders. One such envelope is from Kerry, author of the NL Central Cardinals Cards on Cards blog (not to be confused with the National Football League Cardinals).

Kerry claimed a couple of cards from my Cards for Clunkers program...and in return knocked another card off of my want list. Of course, Kerry is a generous trader, so I also recieved some "extra" Cincinnati Reds cards!

Let's dig in:

2009 Topps:
Legends of the Game:
LG11: Lou Gehrig

Sweet, the last card that I needed for the Series 1 insert set. I'm still hopeful I'll be able to finish the '09 Topps base set before the 2010 set hits store shelves...

Bonus Cincinnati Reds cards:

1991 Fleer - Eric Davis

1989 Topps - Chris Sabo
2009 UD Goudey - Wilkon Castillo, Edinson Volquez
1993 Topps Gold - Dave Martinez

1989 SportFlics - Chris Sabo

Plus 2 Barry Larkin cards that will get their own post as part of my Barry Larkin collection series.

Thanks a lot Kerry - I hope you enjoy the "clunkers" I sent you! And if anyone else would like to work out a trade, you know the drill. Check out my want list and make an offer!

Barry Larkin Collection 29: 1993 Score Select #23

Barry Larkin
Brand: Score Select
Card number: 23

Of all the early/mid 90s sets, I think the '93 Score Select set is one of the more vastly underrated sets! For the Larkin card, a nice, rather unique action shot on the front of the card is complemented by a more standard photo of Barry hitting on the back. I also like the set features the team logo - I'm always a sucker for that! Finally, there's even enough space on the back of the card for a small writeup and a single year's worth of statistics...not bad at all! It's too bad the entire set is green though, at least for Reds cards since it kind of makes every Reds card look like a Christmas card instead. Even so, not a bad card, and certainly a set I need to go back through and perhaps complete someday.

80. Joe Martinez

107. Bryan Berg

149. Chipper Jones
